Project Details
EMG was engaged by Advance Stores Company, Inc. to perform a Phase II Environmental Assessment of an Advanced Auto Parts store located at Penn Mar Shopping Center in Roanoke, Virginia. The investigation was performed in an effort to define the extent of contamination associated with one hydraulic lift formerly removed from the site.
The Phase II Environmental Site Assessment consisted of the advancement of soil borings in the area of previously identified contamination. Numerous soil samples were collected and analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) as required by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). EMG did not analyze for PCBs since the previous assessment did not identify any evidence of impact.
The results of the assessment revealed that the previously identified contamination was localized.
A formal report was prepared and submitted to the MDE for review. Upon review, the MDE concurred with EMG, and the open case was closed. A Notice of Compliance was provided to EMG’s client by the MDE. EMG provided Advance Auto Stores Company with a report detailing the extent of the contamination. EMG concluded that the contamination is residual and does not pose a threat to human health or the environment and that no further action will be required by the Maryland Department of the Environment.
